Answer by Desmond Last:

The deaths of so many Americans in all theaters of war and areas of conflict is a testimony to their bravery and an accompaniment to a proud history that provides them with a duty to protect freedom.

There are many accusations of vested interests that can be charged to the Governments of America. But Politicians hijacking the spirit of of American freedom, and the defense of that freedom, is not the same as the Marine who genuinely believes he or she is fighting to remove oppression from peoples all over the world.

American Foreign policy has caused many unnecessary deaths and much misery in the pursuit of regional power and influence. But is should not be used to belittle the American soldier’s ultimate sacrifice.

The endurance of the American soul and with it the spirit of possibility of a world as one is embodied in the America’s willingness to forge a future where all are equal and wealth is available to everybody.

I would never salute Obama. But I will salute the American Military who have not once turned away from their belief in being able to fight to defend freedom. Be it personal or for others.

Why do Americans make such a big fuss over free speech and the right to bear arms, as if they were really important freedoms?
