My answer to In which city should everyone live for at least once in their lifetime and why?

Answer by Desmond Last:

Even though I am taking the Lord Mayor Clover Moore of Sydney to court when I return, I have to say Sydney. I have traveled to a few major Cities so it an opinion based on first-hand knowledge. I spent 23 years living in Sydney and loved its culture, its life-style and most times its people.

Even though it is a City it does not have the over-crowded feeling of London or the vastness of New York.

Its many cultures each have their own H.Q and mix with each other very well.

Bondi has the Poms, Auburn the Lebanese, Belmont the Koreans, Leichardt the Italians etc.

You can walk across the City in a day and the views from both the Harbor Bridge and the Anzac bridge are memorable at both sunset and dawn.

Public Transport is good.

Streets such as King Street and suburbs like Balmain, Glebe and Paddington are full of history with a wide variety of shops.

You can be in the National Park within an hour of leaving the City Center.

Night life is busy and varied. You can enjoy the color of Oxford Street which is Gay Central and dance to the early hours at Stonewall, the Midnight Shift and ARQ or you can go to Kings Cross. There you can drink eat and party.

You can also watch the boats at Darling Harbor and eat and dance at the water-front restaurants or Home nightclub. The Casino is close by. There is also a harbor foreshore walk.

It has many suburbs and the closer you are to the City the more expensive it is. But you can live in the less expense suburbs as there is a good train system.

You are only 20 minutes from a beach if you are in the City Center. Red-leaf beach at Double Bay is an inner city beach on Sydney Harbor.

Sydney is still my favorite City.

In which city should everyone live for at least once in their lifetime and why?
