This is my list of Cafes in Sydney where you can chill, watch the world go by and not be annoyed by anybody.

  1. Bobby’s Cafe Darlington. Until my illegal eviction by the ANZ Bank (court case very soon) this was my breakfast cafe. Good coffee and breakfast and Bobby is friendly. It is just down the road from the Block which is Redfern’s Aboriginal culture centre. It is also down the road a bit from the Carriage works which is a major arts centre. Darlington is just down the road from Newtown.
  2. The Fair Trade Cafe. Glebe. This is a very comfortable lounging type of cafe. The inside goes back a way and is ideal for conversations and meetings. The cafe fronts onto Glebe Point Road so there is plenty to look at. On Saturdays there is a market.
  3. Crown Street Sydney. I can’t remember the names but there are two notables. As you come off Oxford Street about six cafes down jsut about opposite the Maltese Cafe is a restaurant/coffee shop that makes superb pizzas. The whole street is coffee central and ideal for people gazing. At the other end is a coffee shop just opposite the Thai Restaurant – which is also good.
  4. Stonewall. Oxford Street. During the day when it is not busy Stonewall is a great place to have a coffee or drink. Stonewall is Gay Central and does not get going till about 9.00pm.
  5. Coogee Beach. Great as an alternative to Bondi and all coffee shops along the front facing the beach.
  6. The suburb of Inner West Sydney is all arts and culture. Glebe, Newtown, Chippendale, Balmain, Darlington, Redfern, Paddington. The best way to see is by foot.
