My answer to What do many Europeans think when they arrive in the USA for the very first time?
Answer by Desmond Last:
The flag. The flag of the United States of America.
It is everywhere. More so in the Country area’s and the outer suburbs but certainly on lots of Public Buildings.
I rode my Harley from Los Angles to Canada, via Mexico, Galveston, New York, Washington and then on to Denver.
Wherever I went the people of America displayed their pride in America and its achievements.
I have been to Australia, Europe, Canada, Vanuatu , Fiji and New Caledonia and at the moment live in the U.K
America displayed more flags per sq kn than any other country.
It is something that in the United Kingdom is almost disproved of. Why?
In the U.K we are not meant to intimidate other cultural groups – even though they peruse their culture’s with a vigor.
I also find Americans are more prepared to engage in debate and discussion about their country. Here in the U.K I might as well talk to a brick wall for the response I receive.
Americans are a Nation who are proud of their past and look to their future.
Here in the U.K they live off the past and act as if they are owed a future by the rest of the World.
